{outfit post - Buena Vista Social Club}

A great night out with my friends in small jazz and salsa club in Kyiv. It's called Buena Vista Latin House, inspired by famous Cuban Buena Vista Social Club - lovely little place in the heart of the city, with vintage piano at the entrance, Cuban flags, live music and great mojitos))
Also it was a great occasions - my friend's ex-student was singing there that night. She's got an amazing-amazing voice and her renditions of classic jazz standarts are gorgeous. So the evening was great, and I have a new favorite club now!))

I was wearing:

Dress/Сукня - boohoo.com (a little bit altered by me)
Coat/Пальто - H&M
Scarf/Шарф - a gift from Goa
Belt/Пояс - B.P.C. (via http://www.bonprix.ua/)
Boots/Чоботи - no brand, I've bought them at the department store near my work
Earrings/Сережки - gift from my friends
Infinity ring/Каблучка - Avon empowerment ring
Bracelets/Браслети - Topshop
Tights/Колготки - Conte

{I can still recall our last summer}

Fall is finally here and it's getting colder every day. My friend from other city told me that they've had first snow today.
Oh, I'm so not ready for the snow! It's too early! We don't usually have snow until the middle of December! I still want to enjoy my golden autumn)
On such days I like to look through my summer photos. What a great time it was!
These pictures were taken on August 24, the Independence Day (I still have long hair!)), when we went to one of my favorite parks - I've already made a few posts about it, but this one is the best)
It was such a great day - lying in the sun, talking, laughing, eating delicious pies and drinking great Georgian wine. Loved it so much <3

Friend Friday - Location Influences Fashion

Better late then never)))

1. What part of the world do you blog from?

I blog from Kyiv (Kiev), the capital of Ukraine. It's a beautiful, more 1500 - years old city with very impressive history, located in Eastern Europe.

Monica and I - 2010
Sabine, Ira and me - 2008

2. If you had to describe the overall mode of dress for where you live what would you say?

I have no idea if there's a mode. On the streets of Kyiv you can see everything - designer gowns, gothic, emo, and punk outfits, cute high street dresses, national vyshyvanka shirts, track suits and anything you can only imagine) My city is very diverse and eclectic - lots of people, lots of nationalities, lots of turists (lots and lots of them).

3. Do you fit in with the status quo around you or do you break the mold?

I think city vise I blend in into eclectic crowd just fine. As for my friends and colleagues - I do think I'm breaking mold a little. I just love to dress up not only on occasions, but each and every day.

4. If you have lived or traveled to another part of the country/world did your clothing choices evolve?

As an adult I've never lived anywhere but Kyiv. But as a young child I've relocated for a few years to Jaromer in Chech Republic, where my parents worked then. I was 4 years old, but I do remember how I came there with my grandma and grandpa for the first time. When my dad saw me, he took me to the nearest clothes shop, bought me new t-shirt, pants, cardi and shoes, and the old ones put into the trash can on the central square)) Yeah, my grandma, very excentric old lady, was dressing me weirdly and thought that shoes with holes in them were good for a kid)))

5. If you had to describe your style by naming a specific city, what would you be? I'd like to be London or New York. But I have no idea how to describe my style. I am very eclectic dress vise - I love to try on new things and trends and to push myself to be more open and experiment more with my clothes.

Adam Lambert in Moscow

1

Rephrasing Louise Bourgeois - I've been to Moscow and and back, and it was amazing.
Not because of the city but thanks to my awesome girls and to Adam Lambert. And to one particular boy, who finally presented me with my new beautiful Pan Am bag.

great plans

I have some great news) I've got my plane ticket yesterday and on May 27 I'm flying to Moscow to see my friends and to attend Adam Lambert's concert! Isn't it great? It is! For so, so many reasons.
1. I love to fly.
2. I love to travel in general.
3. I love my friends.
4. I love Adam Lambert ever since AI.
5. I'd finally get my Pan Am bag from a friend who'd be back from Seattle by then.
I'm so happy there's no words to describe how much.
To tell you the truth, I'm not a fan of Moscow. It's totally not my type of city and I can't say that I like it that much. But I have so many great friends there! Few of them have already made their appearance in this blog.
I'm so excited! I'm already planning my outfits for that weekend, and the book I'm gonna take to the plane, and some duty free shopping, and great time with friends. What an awesome feeling - I love this kind of anticipation.

Radio School

IMG_2501
I can't believe it's almost over. It's been a great experience and I feel that I've grown a lot as a public performer and voice actor (today's work on demo in the studio was great and I've heard a lot of good commentaries from our teacher) and also have found a few really good friends.
There's one recording session left and after that the Radio School is over for us. But I really hope we'll stay in touch.
The picture is from today's session (the studio had some problems with heating, but it's okay as long as the mics are working correctly).

Warm and cozy

Untitled-2

Dress - Oggi
Cardigan - thrifted (for half a dollar)
Belt - thrifted
Boots - no brand

Yesterday one of my best friends Mila'd became a PhD. I was in the auditorium when she was defending her thesis and really liked it. I've never been much of a sience person - I like to study, I like reseach, but no, I couldn't write a thesis even if my life depend on it. I do have a serious dislike of all the execution's limitations. Even my master's thesis was a torture for me. That's why I love to paint and don't have a PhD.
That's what I wore for the occasion. I love this outfit - it's warm and comfy, and also makes this dress appropriate for wearing casually (it's way to open to wear it without cardigan on such occasions). Pictures are a little awkward - I was very tired and had a terrible headache. But the day was great.
Congratulations, Mila!

So many of my dearest friends are living very far from me. I have besties in London, Warshaw, Vilnius, Amsterdam, Moskow, Saint Petersburg. Sabine is one of them, a great friend, whom I see only for a few days a year.
These pictures were taken in our favorite Italian restaurant on Christmas Eve (right before I went home to celebrate with my family). There was a night of a very odd light, that's why everyone looks pale and exhausted on every picture (we totally weren't exhausted))

I'm having the weirdest week, full of work (too many movies to translate), classes amd studio practice (still haven't written a descent text to read in the studio on week-end), my friend's defence of a thesis, so long, so long.
That's why I haven't written fasion inspirations of anything else this week. Sorry, I hope I'll catch up with everything later.

Missing spring

I haven't written about my Christmas (I've already said that we celebrate Christmas on January 7) this year because I had no time (and because I'm still waiting for my photos!). But there's one more winter holiday we celebrate - January 13. It's the acient Ukrainian holiday of Malanka and also a so called Old New Year (both this holidays are celebrating on January 13 because of the calendar change).
So yesterdy I was invited to the celebration and it was amazing - we've spent almost all night laughing, dancing, playing games and all that stuff. It was great!
But today, as I walked into my apartment and saw the decorated tree, I felt that that's it. The last winter holiday is over, can I have my spring now, please?
But well, it's not even the middle of the winter yet (one more day, ha!), so I just have to pe optimistic, drink my favorite green tea and look at my favorite spring pictures.
That's what I'm doing now, actually.

Red lipstick and the "Central Perk"

There's a awesome new coffee-shop in Kyiv! The fans of "FRIENDS" have opened the Friends-themed cafe and it's an amazing place to spend a nice winter evening. It's really cosy and cute, has it's unique atmosphere and you can enjoy delicious sandwiches and coffee for a very reasonable price.
The funniest part - neither me nor any of my friends from Kyiv knew about it, until Dasha (who's actually Russian and lives in Moskow) came to visit and told us about it.

Pride and Prejudice

My friends came to visit us, so I'm having a busy-busy-busy, but also a very pleasing week. I love the time of year, right after the New Years Eve, when they all came to visit - we are talking, laughing in public places, holding each others hands, drinking delicious vine and baking delicious mozzarella pies, visiting awesome places and watching a lot of cool movies and TV-shows. Last year we've dedicated some of our precious time together to the pilot episode of Being Human (British original pilot is an amazing piece of writing, shooting and acting. I'm still heartbrocken about Mitchell's recasting), few episodes of Doctor Who (to introduce my friend Sabine to the magical personality of one Donna Noble)) and a lot of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (we're watching it's episodes every year - it's an unbelievably beautiful show).
This year we have a lot of plans to watch new BBC's series Sherlock (if you haven't seen it, I strongly recommend - it's a very smart modern version of Sherlock Holmes's adventures in London of 2010) and a few episodes of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip again, but today, after the whole day of walking/talking/sightseeing, we were more than happy to remember our all time favorite - Pride and Prejudice (1995).

Pride-and-Prejudice-1995-image-pride-and-prejudice-1995-36265341-1920-1080

I can't say that I'm a big Austen's fan, but sometimes I like to watch or read something nice and romantic. And this is definitely it.
And these two! What an amazing story!
I hope that everyone have as much fun these days as I do))) And now I have to go to sleep, because I'm awake since 6-30 in the morning, and now it's 1-08 a.m.)))

2010 in pictures

It was a good, bad, great, hard, awesome and disasterous year, for which I'm still gratefull.

Outfit and the tree)

I have a few free seconds, which means that I'm not working on my new Discovery translations (really need to finish them as soon as possible and get payed) and I'm not sleeping, which would be a wise thing to do, 'cause I've got three ongoing work projects now:
- full time freelance (yeah, I know) of doing really mindless work (I get to communicate with really cool people while working and get payed often, but I also have to get up at 7-00, and I've been working from home for a long time - I'm usually awake at this time only if I haven't got to bed at all,
- Discovery translations,
- re-writing side job for my friend's boyfriend and his company.

And I also have to find time for:
- radio school (tomorrow is my last class before holidays, yay!),
- meeting my friends, who came home from Warshaw for New Year,
- visiting an excibition at a really cool gallery,
- picking and sending gifts and postcards (I'm so late this year, shame on me),
- pre-holiday thrifting (I fell in love with a pair of wedges and waiting for the right price),
- buying a Christmas tree and decorating it with handmade ornaments.

Well, crazy days.
But I'm so happy that last night I've took some time off from all the craziness and had a night out with my friends! We've watched Tangled (none of us had time to watch it before), shopped for some handmade goodies and had an amazing dinner.
And later my friend took these pictures of me under the Christmas tree in a small mall. So hi, that's me again)

Prohibition era party

As I already wrote, my friend Mila and her students were making this beautifully themed party for a long time - auditioning the members of jazz-band from their faculty, rehearsing (she was singing with them) and all that jazz (sorry, I had to say that))))

So, long story short - that's my last night in pictures.

Birthdays and hedgehogs

My outfit from yesterday. My best frienв had her birthday vampire-themed party transformed into a picnic/barbeque day off. It was an awesome idea, 'cause there're like the last warm sunny autumn days, so how can we waste them?))

неділя, 8 серпня 2010 р.

Haven't been blogging for a while. Mostly because I have a LOT of work now (I took a translation project from one of Ukrainian TV-channels and currently working on the first season of The Contender).
I really could use some money, especially now, when my friends from Russia and Lithuania are coming and we already planned a trip to Lviv, an old and really beautiful Ukrainian city with amazing European architecture.
We are going there this week, so I have to finish translations by that time. So no more blogging for now, just work. LOTS of work.

Road trip with my mom

5

Last weekend was the best weekend ever. My mom and I took our old car and went on a road trip to the small village where I'd spent every summer of my childhood.

We've had a lot of fun, visited a few old towns, their beautiful small churches, farmer markets (where we bought some amazingly delicious raspberries). Ah, and also we found our neighbor's goat in our garden - super cute and with the softest ears ever.
